With new rules banning the production of traditionally fuelled cars from 2030, and new hybrids from 2035, the future is hanging on electric vehicles. As part of his internship with composite manufacturer Composite Braiding, Adam Fletcher is using the equipment in our Materials Engineering Centre (MEC) to perform compression testing on carbon fiber nylon samples.
Supervised by sustainability expert Helena Simmonds, Adam is helping the company reduce the waste in the manufacturing process of braided parts from composites. In turn, this will result in reduced carbon emissions from the process overall.

As part of the WMG Internship Programme, Noor is working with 5D Health Protection Group Ltd, under the supervision of Vannessa Goodship, Associate Professor at WMG, University of Warwick.
Noor’s job will help 5D develop a range of antimicrobial products for diverse applications across both the medical sector and wider society to assist in preventing systematic infection from touchpoint plastic items.

How do we develop a robust technical infrastructure to support the anticipated explosive growth in smart vehicular functions, communications systems and driverless cars? The strategic success of any industrial player in this area would depend on a ready availability of a skilled work-force within high level technical competencies, specifically catered for the automotive environment.
Through this MSc in Smart, Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, we address the knowledge-gap in the areas of machine learning, automated control strategies, connectivity, and communication infrastructure, cyber-security protocols, emerging automotive networks and robust automotive embedded systems within the context of smart, connected and autonomous vehicles.

The Cloud Assisted Real-time Methods for Autonomy (CARMA) project, is part of the £11m TASCC programme funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and Jaguar Land Rover. Supported by WMG’s Centre High Value Manufacturing Catapult, the CARMA project was established with the intention to create secure and resilient cloud-based platforms to enable safe and robust semi-autonomous functions on future cars in the short term, and with the vision of achieving fully autonomous vehicles.
This demonstration focusses on unleashing the power of Edge and Cloud Computing, using a “connected roundabout” at the University of Warwick’s main campus.
