Rising head Slug test Analysis Tool (RSAT)
- Title
- Rising head Slug test Analysis Tool (RSAT)
- Description
- Slug test are used in hydrological studies to assess the hydraulic conductivity of aquifers. The hydraulic conductivity is calculated based on the recovery of the groundwater level in a well after addition or removal of a slug. Slug tests are used when hydraulic conductivity in the close vicinity of the well is to be assessed, when pumping tests cannot be conducted or when the level of desired accuracy is the general order of magnitude. The RSAT 0.2.1 (Rising head Slug test Analysis Tool) is a tool for analyzing rising head slug tests. It is developed in Python 3.7 and has a user interface built with the Tkinter package. Its functionalities are splitting datasets with multiple slug tests to individual slug tests, several plotting functionalities and the calculation of the horizontal hydraulic conductivity. This hydraulic conductivity can be calculated with the Bouwer and Rice methods for fully and partially penetrating wells in unconfined aquifers and with the Hvorslev methods for fully and partially penetrating wells in confined aquifers. Depending on the quality of the measurements, there are options to use all the data, the best range of the data (normalized head between 0.20-0.30 for Bouwer and Rice methods and between 0.15 and 0.25 for the Hvorslev methods) or the first range of the data (normalized head between 0.30 and 1). A standalone executable is also available. This tool eases the preprocessing, visualization and the analysis of the quality of rising head slug tests and offers automatic calculation of the hydraulic conductivity.
